The Lutheran Heritage Village is located in St Joseph, Michigan and is less than 5 miles from the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan.

St Joseph is a lively town on the banks of the St Joseph River, with lovely views over Lake Michigan. The downtown area has distinctive brick-paved streets and is home to numerous unique shops and cafés. It has a strong sense of community and hosts many events and festivals throughout the year.

Events in St Joseph include:

'Luminaria Festival' – An annual holiday season event, where the downtown area is lit by candlelight and merchants open late with refreshments.

'Ice Carving Festival' - Over 120 blocks of ice are carved and magicians entertain.

'Blossomtime Festival' - This floral extravaganza attracts over 250,000 spectators, and is televised regionally.

'Venetian Festival' - Includes concerts, dancing, sand sculpture, fireworks, car shows, parades and food booths on the waterfront.

Regular events throughout the year include farmer's markets and antique fairs.

St Joseph has many museums and historical sites, from the Fort St Joseph Museum, which has exhibits on the area's Indian and French colonial past, to the Curious Kid's Museum and fine art museums.

There are numerous recreational opportunities for those of all ages. The sandy beaches of the shore of Lake Michigan are among the best in the world, and have been voted prizewinners by family magazines. Canoeing, hiking and fishing are among the sports available, and residents of St Joseph can obtain passes to St Joseph's many parks at no charge. The marina has nearly 100 slips and is conveniently located by the St Joseph River Yacht Club.

St Joseph is a very friendly town, and the 'Newcomer's Club' offers events and activity groups to those who have recently arrived, to help you feel at home and make friends.

Further away, the Lutheran Heritage Village is less than an hour from South Bend, Indiana. As well as numerous shopping and recreational opportunities, attractions there include:

- Ella Morris and Muessel-Ellsion Botanical Conservatories, and Potawatomi Greenhouse Botanical gardens, with tropical exhibits where the best of nature can be enjoyed

- Potawatomi Zoo - Indiana's oldest zoo with over 500 animals

- Rum Village Nature Center - 160 acres of natural woodland with native tree species and wildlife, a designated nature area within the urban area

- South Bend Symphony - Providing concerts for over 70 years

- Snite Museum of Art - One of the finest university art museums in North America

- Morris Performing Arts Center - Nationally top-ranked 2500-seat theatre with Broadway shows, comedy, symphonies and dancing

- Northern Indiana Center for History - Presentations on life in the St Joseph river valley area from prehistoric times to present, several museums including a children's museum

- College Football Hall of Fame - all the history and pageantry of college football, in a convenient downtown location

The Lutheran Heritage Village is also just two hours from the major centers of Chicago and Grand Rapids.
